A random number generator you can watch spin
Sometimes you need a number and would rather not choose it yourself. This random number generator puts every
number in your range on a wheel, picks one, and spins the wheel to land on it. A window shows the result. It is
free, runs in your browser, and needs no account.
The page opens on 1 to 10, so you can press Spin straight away. A number wheel does the same job
as a plain number generator, with something to watch, which helps when a class, a stream or a table of players is
waiting for the answer.
How to generate a random number
- Set the range. Type the lowest number in From and the highest in To. Both numbers are included.
- Adjust if you need to. Open Step (interval) and leave out to count in steps or remove numbers.
- Check the count. The page shows how many numbers are on the wheel, such as “10 numbers on the wheel · 1 to 10”.
- Press Spin. You can also click the wheel or press Ctrl or ⌘ plus Enter.
- Read the result. The number appears in a window, and the Results tab lists every number from your visit.
Count in steps and leave numbers out
A range does not have to be every whole number. Step sets the gap between numbers, so 0 to 100
with a step of 5 gives 0, 5, 10 and so on up to 100. Start at 2 with a step of 2 for even numbers only.
Leave out removes numbers or ranges you do not want, written like 13, 20-25.
Negative numbers work too, so −10 to 10 is a valid range. The wheel picks whole numbers only, with no decimals.
Is the number generator wheel fair?
Yes. When you press Spin, the page asks your browser for a secure random number
(crypto.getRandomValues) and turns it into one of your numbers without favouring any of them. Every
number on the wheel is equally likely. The result is chosen first, then the wheel is aimed at it, so the
animation never changes the outcome. For the full detail, read how WheelSpinny picks.
This is a tool for games, decisions and draws. Do not use it to make passwords or security keys.
What “random” means for a number
Random does not mean evenly spread. Spin 1 to 10 ten times and some numbers will come up twice while others do
not appear at all. That is normal. Each spin is independent, so a number is never “due” because it has not come
up for a while, and one that just won has the same chance next time. If you want every number used exactly once,
that is what No repeats is for.
Pick several different numbers
Each spin gives one number. To draw several that are all different, switch on No repeats. Each
picked number then comes off the wheel when you close its result, and Put picked numbers back
restores them. Leave it off when repeats are fine, as with a die, where a 4 can come up twice in a row.
Pick a number from 1 to 10, 1 to 100 and other ranges
The ranges people ask for most have their own pages, each opening the wheel on that range with notes on what it
suits. Try 1 to 2 for a tie-breaker, 1 to 6 for
a die, 1 to 10, 1 to 20,
1 to 100 or 1 to 1,000. The full list is
under Pick a range below. Copy link to this range gives you a link that opens the
wheel on your own range, step and left-out numbers.
Ideas for using a random number picker
- Classrooms. Number the class list, leave out anyone who is absent, and call on students in a random order with No repeats.
- Games. Roll a stand-in die, choose a card number, or pick a round of a quiz. For several dice at once, use the dice roller.
- Bingo and calling numbers. Set 1 to 75, switch on No repeats, and call each number as it comes up.
- Raffles and giveaways. Draw a ticket number. For several winners and a log, the raffle generator is built for it.
- Everyday decisions. Give each option a number and let the wheel choose. For a yes or no, try the coin flip.
- Practice and maths. Pick random times-table questions, page numbers or numbers to round.
To pick from names or any other list instead, use the random name picker, or
head to the main spin the wheel page.
Good to know
- A wheel holds up to 1,000 numbers. For a wider span, raise the step. From and To can be anywhere between −1,000,000,000 and 1,000,000,000.
- Your range and settings are saved in your own browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
- The tool works on phones, tablets and desktop browsers, and with a keyboard. The result is shown as text and announced to screen readers, and a device set to reduce motion skips the long spin.
Random number generator FAQ
What is a random number generator?
A random number generator picks a number from a range by chance, so nobody can predict or steer the result. This one puts every number in your range on a wheel, picks one, and spins the wheel to land on it.
How do I use the random number generator wheel?
Type the lowest number in From and the highest in To, then press Spin. You can also click the wheel or press Ctrl or ⌘ plus Enter. The number that comes up is shown in a window, and the Results tab keeps a list of every number from your visit.
Is the random number generator free?
Yes. It is free, runs in your browser, and needs no account, sign-up or install.
Is it really random, and is it fair?
Yes. The result is drawn the moment you press Spin, using your browser’s secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) with a method that avoids bias. Every number on the wheel is equally likely, and the animation is aimed at the result and never changes it. The how WheelSpinny picks page explains the details and lets you run a fairness test.
What does RNG mean?
RNG stands for random number generator. People often type it with a range, as in “RNG 1 to 10”. Set From and To to that range and the wheel does the same job.
How do I pick a number between 1 and 10, or any other range?
The wheel opens on 1 to 10, so you can spin straight away. For another range, change From and To. There are also ready-made pages for the ranges people search for most, such as 1 to 2, 1 to 6, 1 to 20, 1 to 100 and 1 to 1,000, linked under “Pick a range” on this page.
How do I pick a number between 1 and 100?
Set From to 1 and To to 100, or open the 1 to 100 page, which starts on that range. The wheel then has 100 slices, and each number has a 1 in 100 chance.
Can I generate more than one random number?
Each spin gives one number. To get several, spin more than once. If you need every number to be different, switch on No repeats first, so each number you pick comes off the wheel. Leave it off if the same number is allowed to come up again.
How do I stop the same number coming up twice?
Switch on No repeats. Each picked number comes off the wheel when you close its result. Press Put picked numbers back to restore them. With it off, every spin is independent, so a number can repeat, just as a dice roll can.
Can I leave certain numbers out?
Yes. Open Step (interval) and leave out, and type numbers or ranges separated by commas, such as 13, 20-25. Those numbers are removed from the wheel. The page shows how many numbers are left.
What does the step setting do?
Step is the gap between numbers on the wheel. From 0 to 100 with a step of 5 gives 0, 5, 10 and so on up to 100. Use it for multiples, for even or odd numbers, or to cover a wide range with fewer slices.
Can it pick even or odd numbers only?
Yes. Start at an even number with a step of 2 for even numbers, such as 2 to 100, or at an odd number with a step of 2 for odd numbers, such as 1 to 99.
Does it work with negative numbers?
Yes. Both From and To can be negative, so −10 to 10 is a valid range. Zero counts as a number like any other.
Can it generate decimals?
No. It picks whole numbers only. For a value such as 0.5, use a step and read the whole number as tenths or hundredths. For example, 0 to 100 can stand for 0.00 to 1.00 in hundredths.
What is the biggest range I can use?
A wheel holds up to 1,000 numbers, and From and To can be anywhere between −1,000,000,000 and 1,000,000,000. To cover a wider span, increase the step. For example, 10 to 10,000 with a step of 10 gives exactly 1,000 numbers.
What is the difference between a number generator and a number wheel spinner?
Nothing in the result. Both give a random number in a range. A number wheel spinner adds the wheel, which is easier to watch and to share on a screen when other people are waiting for the answer.
Can I use it as a number picker for a raffle or a classroom?
Yes. Set the range to your ticket numbers or class list, and leave out any that are absent or already used. For a prize draw with several winners and a log of results, the raffle generator is built for it.
Can I use it to roll a die?
Yes. A range of 1 to 6 is a fair six-sided die, and 1 to 20 is a twenty-sided one. For several dice at once, with a total, use the dice roller.
Can I use it to pick lottery numbers?
You can set the range your game uses and switch on No repeats to draw different numbers. Every number is equally likely, but no number is more likely to win, and nothing here connects to a lottery or improves your odds.
Is it safe to use for passwords or security keys?
No. This tool is made for games, decisions and draws. For passwords and keys, use a password manager or a tool built for the purpose.
Can I share the range I set?
Yes. Press Copy link to this range. The link opens the wheel on the same From, To, step and left-out numbers.
Are my numbers saved or sent anywhere?
Your range and settings are saved in your own browser so they are still there when you return. They are not sent to a server or an account, and clearing your browser data removes them.
Does it work on a phone, and is it accessible?
Yes. The fields and buttons fit narrow screens and work with a keyboard. The result is shown as text and announced to screen readers. If your device is set to reduce motion, the result appears without the long spin.
