Give everyone exactly one turn
The quickest way to make picking feel fair to a group is to make sure nobody is picked twice before everyone has been picked once. The wheel does this with one button:
- Spin. The chosen name pops up as soon as the wheel stops.
- Press Remove “name”. That line is taken off the list and the wheel redraws without them.
- Spin again for the next person. Repeat until the wheel is empty.
Removed someone by mistake? Press Undo straight away to put them back. The Results tab keeps the order everyone was picked in, which is handy for presentation orders or turn-taking.
Getting your names in quickly
- From a spreadsheet or class register: select the column of names, copy, and paste. Each cell becomes one name.
- From a message or document: if the names arrive as “Ana, Ben, Cara”, paste them anyway. The editor offers to split them onto separate lines.
- Two people with the same name: both stay on the wheel as separate entries. Add an initial (“Sam K”, “Sam P”) so you can tell who was picked.
The list is saved in your browser, so the same class or team is still there next time you open this page on this device.
In the classroom
- Show the wheel on the board. Students can see it isn’t you choosing. Use your browser’s zoom to make it larger; the wheel scales to fit.
- Use first names or initials. Names never leave your device, but a share link contains the whole list, so keep full names out of links you post publicly.
- Prefer a quieter room? Sound is off by default. Turn it on with the Sound button if you want the ticking.
Drawing several winners
For a raffle or a prize draw, keep removing each winner and spinning again. Entries are equally likely on every spin, so an entrant with two tickets should appear on two lines. The wheel holds up to1,000 names. For large draws, the slices become colors only, and the picked name is always shown in full.
If your draw has legal or prize rules, check them before you start. A browser tool is fine for classroom and office draws but isn’t a certified drawing system. Here’s exactly how the pick works.
