A random NFL team generator you can spin

Need a team for a Madden game, a friendly bet, a trivia round or a new team to follow? Press Spin and this random NFL team generator picks one of 32 teams. The wheel turns, lands on a team, and shows its logo and division. It is free, runs in your browser, and needs no account.

Spin the whole league, or narrow the NFL team wheel first to a conference or a single division. Take each pick off the wheel so nothing repeats, or leave it on and let chance repeat itself.

How to pick a random NFL team

  1. Choose which teams. Leave it on All 32 teams, or pick a conference or division.
  2. Trim the list if you like. Open Choose individual teams to take any team off the wheel.
  3. Press Spin. You can also click or tap the wheel, or press Ctrl (⌘ on a Mac) plus Enter.
  4. Read the result. You get the team, its logo and its division.
  5. Spin again. Turn on No repeats if you do not want the same team twice.

What is on the NFL wheel

Every one of the 32 NFL franchises has a slice, filled with one of the team’s colors and marked with its logo. The teams are grouped the way the league groups them: two conferences, each split into four divisions of four teams.

Spin one conference or division

Under Which teams, choose the AFC or the NFC and the wheel holds only those 16 teams. Choose a division, such as the AFC East or NFC North, for a wheel of four, which is handy for a quick rivalry pick. You can choose several at once, for example two divisions, and the wheel holds both.

To go the other way, open Choose individual teams, search by name and untick the ones you want to skip. Leaving out your own team or a hated rival is a common use.

No repeats: a different team each time

With No repeats on, each picked team comes off the wheel when you close its result, so a round never lands on the same team twice. The wheel gets smaller with every spin, and Put picked teams back starts it over. That makes it easy to hand every player in a group a different team. With it off, every spin is independent and a team can come up again, which is how random works.

Why spin a wheel instead of just choosing

Left to choose, most people reach for the same few teams, usually their favorite or the one with the best roster. A random NFL team breaks that habit. A video game session gets a fresh matchup, a fan finds out what it is like to play or follow a team from the other conference, and a group avoids the argument over who gets the best team. Because the draw is fair, nobody can say the choice was rigged, so the wheel settles it calmly.

Is the NFL team picker fair?

Yes. When you press Spin, the page asks your browser for a secure random number (crypto.getRandomValues) and turns it into one team on the wheel without favoring any of them. Each team has the same chance, which is 1 in 32 with all of them on. Last season’s record, the size of the city and the strength of the roster do not change the odds. The result is chosen first, then the wheel is aimed at it, so the animation never changes the outcome. For the detail, read how WheelSpinny picks.

Random does not mean evenly spread. Spin ten times and you may see the same division three times and an entire conference not at all. That is normal, and a team is never “due” because it has not come up.

Random NFL team generator FAQ

What is a random NFL team generator?

A random NFL team generator picks a pro football team by chance so you do not have to choose one yourself. This one is a wheel: it spins, lands on one of 32 teams, and shows the team’s logo and division.

How do I pick a random NFL team?

Press Spin. You can also click or tap the wheel, or press Ctrl (⌘ on a Mac) plus Enter. The wheel turns and lands on a team, and the result shows its logo and division.

What is the NFL team wheel?

The NFL team wheel is a spinning wheel with a team on each slice, filled with that team’s colors and marked with its logo. The team under the pointer when it stops is your pick. An NFL wheel does the same job as a team spinner or picker, with something to watch while you wait.

Is the random NFL team generator free?

Yes. It is free, runs in your browser, and needs no account or install.

Is the team really random, and is it fair?

Yes. The team is drawn the moment you press Spin, using your browser’s secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) with a method that avoids bias. Every team on the wheel has the same chance, which is 1 in 32 with all of them on. Records, market size and past seasons make no difference. The animation is aimed at the result and never changes it.

How many teams are on the NFL wheel?

All 32 NFL teams: 16 in the AFC and 16 in the NFC, split into 8 divisions of four.

Can I spin for a team from one conference or division?

Yes. Under Which teams, choose the AFC or the NFC for a whole conference, or one of the eight divisions, such as AFC North or NFC West. You can choose several at once, and All 32 teams puts the full league back.

Can I leave out teams I do not want?

Yes. Open Choose individual teams, search by name, and untick any team to take it off the wheel. Tick it again to put it back. You can start from a division and then trim it by name, which is handy for skipping your own team or a rival.

How do I stop the same team coming up twice?

Switch on No repeats. Each picked team comes off the wheel when you close its result. Press Put picked teams back to restore them. With it off, every spin is independent, so a team can repeat, just as a dice roll can.

Can I use it to pick a team for Madden or another football game?

Yes. Spin for your team, or spin twice for a matchup between two random teams. Switch on No repeats for the second spin so you do not play a team against itself. It works for any football video game, including Madden.

Can I use it for fantasy football, a pick’em pool or a draft?

Yes, as a tiebreaker or a fun way to assign teams. Spin to give each friend a team for a season-long challenge, or to decide a draft order. It does not know schedules or standings, so it will not tell you which team will win.

Can I use it to choose a team to follow?

As a nudge, yes. Spin, then look up the roster, the schedule and the team’s history. A random pick can introduce you to a team you would not have chosen. It is only a prompt, so keep spinning until one feels right if you like.

Does the wheel show team logos?

Yes. Each slice carries the team’s logo and is filled with one of its colors, and the result shows the logo with the team’s division, such as AFC East or NFC South.

Are Pro Bowl or college football teams on the wheel?

No. The wheel holds the 32 NFL franchises only. For a list of your own, such as college teams or a fantasy league, use the main spin the wheel page and type in your options.

Can I share the wheel I set up?

Yes. Press Share to copy a link to your wheel, including the teams you chose. Your settings are also saved in your own browser, and nothing is sent to a server.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The wheel and controls fit narrow screens and work by touch, on tablets, and on desktop with a keyboard. Sound is optional, and a device set to reduce motion skips the long spin.
