Pick a number 1-200 on a wheel
This page is a random number generator 1-200: two hundred equal slices on a wheel, one spin and one number. Use it to pick a number between 1 and 200 for an event draw, a year group, a long list or a game that is too big for a hundred.
It is free, runs in your browser and needs no account. The wheel opens ready on 1 to 200, so press Spin and a window shows your number.
How to get a random number 1 to 200
- Decide what the numbers mean. Tickets, students, rows, pages or entries.
- Press Spin. You can also click the wheel or press Ctrl (⌘ on a Mac) plus Enter.
- Read the number in the result window. The Results tab lists every spin, newest first.
- Draw several winners by switching on No repeats. Each picked number comes off the wheel until you put them back.
Odds on a two-hundred-number wheel
Each number has a one-in-two-hundred chance, exactly 0.5%, on every spin. Your browser’s secure random number generator picks the number first, and the wheel is then steered to stop on it. The animation never changes the outcome. The how WheelSpinny picks page covers the method.
Two hundred slices are very narrow, so the wheel labels every fifth slice, like the marks on a dial. The result window names the exact number in large text, and the Results tab keeps a plain list, so the answer never depends on reading a sliver.
Event draws and door prizes
Two hundred is a typical size for a school fair, a conference or a charity night. Number the tickets as they are sold, then spin once for each prize with No repeats on. A ticket that has won comes off the wheel, so it cannot win twice.
Show the wheel on a big screen so everyone can watch, and say the rules before you start. Copy on the Results tab gives the winning numbers in the order they were drawn, which you can post afterwards so that anyone can check the result.
More ideas for a number up to 200
- A year group. Number every student in the year and spin for a volunteer, a monitor or a survey sample.
- Rows to audit. Pick rows to check from a two-hundred-row spreadsheet. Copy the Results tab and paste it into a column.
- Reader and quiz challenges. Choose a page in a long book or a question from a big bank.
- Entries in a contest. Number every entry as it arrives and spin for the winner, so everyone can see how it was chosen.
- Fitness goals. Pick a number of steps, minutes or repetitions as a challenge.
- Estimation games. Spin and ask the group to guess the number of sweets in a jar that holds about that many.
Guess the number from 1 to 200
A guessing game with two hundred numbers rewards a plan. A random guess is right one time in two hundred. A player who always guesses the middle of what remains will find any number in eight guesses or fewer, because eight halvings cover up to 256 numbers.
It is a good game for a long car journey or a classroom with a few spare minutes. Count the guesses, and the person who needs the fewest wins.
Other ways to pick from two hundred
If you want a log of winners with names or ticket numbers, the raffle generator is built for it. To shuffle a long list in one click, use the list randomizer. For a smaller wheel, try 1 to 100, and for a bigger one, 1 to 500.
You can change the range on this page by editing From and To, or open the general random number generator to count in steps or leave numbers out.
Sampling rows from a long list
A spreadsheet with two hundred rows is long enough that checking every line is slow. Number the rows 1 to 200, switch on No repeats, and spin as many times as the sample needs. The Results tab lists the rows to check, and Copy puts them on your clipboard, one per line, ready to paste.
This is an informal sample, not a statistical method. It gives each row the same chance of being chosen, which is a fair start for a spot check, but it does not correct for the way the list was built. For a formal audit, follow the sampling rules your field uses.
Using the wheel on a big screen
At an event, show the page on a big screen. Press Spin with Ctrl or ⌘ plus Enter, wait for the wheel to stop, and read the number out loud. The result window is large and the number is also announced to screen readers, so the audience can follow the draw whether or not they can see the wheel clearly.
Good to know
- The wheel holds the numbers 1 to 200, with both ends included.
- Your range and settings are saved in your own browser, and the Results tab lasts until you close or reload the page. Nothing is sent to a server.
- It works on phones, tablets and desktop browsers, and with a keyboard. The result is announced to screen readers.
- A device set to reduce motion skips the long spin.
- It is for games and informal draws, not for regulated lotteries or security.
